307 Sets of Ethnic Minority Costumes Dazzle, "Songs of the Silk Road" Showcases Exotic Charm of 5 Countries

On the evening of July 24th, the "Silk Road Cloud Garment · Colorful Yunnan 2019 Ethnic Costume Culture Festival" achievements exhibition and the Southeast Asian 5-nation art exquisite performance – "Songs of the Silk Road" – took place at the Chuxiong Yi State Grand Theater. Art performances from Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Thailand, and Myanmar offered the audience a unique audio-visual feast.

The evening kicked off with the costume dance "Silk Road Cloud Garment, Beauty in Harmony" performed by the "Caiyun Star" combination, winners of the Kunming Ethnic Fashion Week Image Ambassador competition. This was followed by a series of spectacular performances, including "Cambodian Apsara Dance," "Beauty of Inheritance," "Happy Laotian People," "Our Fashion," "Ethnic Sediment," "Creativity of Yunnan," "Collection of Thai Traditional Dances," "Charm of Vietnam," and "Each Beautiful in Its Own Way." The performances, rich in exotic flair, allowed the audience to experience the humanistic beauty of different regions.

It's understood that since 2016, Chuxiong Prefecture has successfully hosted three consecutive "Colorful Yunnan Ethnic Costume Culture Festivals." Starting this year, the festival has been fully upgraded to the "Silk Road Cloud Garment · Colorful Yunnan 2019 Ethnic Costume Culture Festival." It consists of 14 series of activities across four stages: "Launch, Ignition, Climax, and Going Global," running from February to December this year. The festival activities during the Torch Festival are the climax of the entire event, featuring 307 sets of costumes covering 25 ethnic minorities from all 16 prefectures (cities) across the province, 163 design drawings submitted by 72 designers, 159 embroidery pieces selected by 121 embroidery masters, and 60 image ambassadors participating in exhibitions and competitions. Five "Top Ten" individual awards will be decided: Traditional Ethnic Clothing, Creative Ethnic Clothing, Designers, Embroidery (Fabric Art) Masters, and Ethnic Clothing Image Ambassadors.

Wonderful Performances Bring You Exotic Experiences!

A Silk Road spans time and space, a runway showcases a thousand years. The costume dance "Silk Road Cloud Garment, Beauty in Harmony," performed by the "Caiyun Star" combination, winners of the Kunming Ethnic Fashion Week Image Ambassador competition, was vibrant and colorful, depicting a path of happiness, dreams, and beauty. "Silk Road Cloud Garment" and "Yi Garment with Yunnan Embroidery" dazzled here.


The "Apsara Dance" brought by the Cambodian Ministry of Culture's specially dispatched artist dance troupe filled the air with ethereal music, as beautiful celestial maidens descended to earth, freely playing. The moving love story between the Apsara and the prince evoked a romantic and beautiful feeling, with its unique exotic charm being particularly captivating.


The "Beauty of Inheritance" exhibition, showcasing excellent traditional works from the Ethnic Clothing Design Competition, featured ethnic costumes that were either opulent and noble, charming and graceful, or simple and natural... the diverse styles allowed one to appreciate the breathtaking beauty of ethnic attire.


As the Chuxiong Yi Torch Festival approaches, young women from the Lao Long ethnic group have come to Chuxiong. They performed traditional Laotian songs and dances for celebrations, offering auspicious blessings and celebrating the festival with us. The program "Happy Laotian People," presented by the National Art Troupe of Laos, added a festive atmosphere to the Torch Festival.


The more ethnic, the more global. "Our Fashion," an exhibition of excellent works from the Kunming Ethnic Fashion Week Design Competition, draws upon Yunnan's rich and colorful ethnic clothing resources, looks at the evolving trends in fashion culture both domestically and internationally, and combines tradition with modernity to create our own ethnic fashion.


The program "Ethnic Sediment," presented by the Myanmar Youth Art Troupe, showcased a harmonious picture of eight ethnic minorities in Myanmar coexisting peacefully and happily, along with Myanmar's unique historical culture and religious beliefs.


The "Creativity of Yunnan" exhibition, featuring excellent creative works from the Ethnic Clothing Design Competition, reflects a fashionable and novel lifestyle concept. Ethnic costumes have undergone several transformations, and through improvements and innovations, they are now more suitable for modern people's wearing needs and aesthetic views, achieving both aesthetic and functional purposes.


The "Collection of Thai Traditional Dances," presented by the Thai College of Dramatic Arts Dance Troupe, is a set of dances adapted from a brief introduction to Thailand. It showcases the magnificent cultures and different costumes of Thailand's northern, central, southern, and northeastern regions, allowing the audience to understand Thai customs and traditions through the dance.


The "Charm of Vietnam," presented by the Nghe An Folk Song Art Troupe of the Vietnam Cultural Heritage Association, displayed Vietnam's picturesque landscapes, numerous historical sites, and its long and splendid culture, giving us a deeper understanding of Vietnam.


The costume show "Each Beautiful in Its Own Way," performed by the ethnic clothing image ambassadors, showcased the unique ethnic costumes and spiritual outlook of various ethnic groups from across the province, fully embodying the cultural connotation of "each beautiful in its own way, appreciating the beauty of others, and finding beauty together" among Yunnan's ethnic groups.
